Recently AMSA made a submission to the Australian Health Ministers’ Advisory Council regarding Mandatory Reporting of treating doctors. We believe that we should adopt the WA model of reporting, whereby treating practitioners and universities are exempt from mandatory reporting. This has shown not to affect patient safety and encourages docs to seek help for mental health issues. While this is just one step in the broader Mental Health issue, we look forward to an outcome soon.
