AMSA Medical Education Research
AMSA Med Ed Research is the body responsible for all research actions undertaken by the organisation. Our overall goal is to allow medical students the opportunity to learn more about and undertake meaningful, ethical research in all areas of medicine, but especially those relating to medical education. All research is led by a research project convenor and 3-4 research team members, with supervision from clinicians and academics around Australia. Other activities we are involved in include:
Undertaking original research for publication in peer-reviewed journals
Creating educational resources relating to research education
Providing research and logistical assistance to other divisions of AMSA e.g. policy
Advocating for meaningful research education in medical schools
So far, Med Ed Research has undertaken projects to assess the psychiatry curriculum outcomes of medical graduates in Australia, intimate partner violence education, and medical specialty selection pressures. Our newest research team is looking at the impact of COVID-19 on medical students.
Further information will be available as these projects near completion. All research is conducted with ethical approval and in accordance with all relevant laws and best clinical practice.
AMSA Med Ed Research Resources was founded in 2020 in an attempt to provide medical students with practical research education that is often missed in the medical curriculum. The team creates simple factsheets on the basics of research and conducting research which cover topics including “How to write an abstract” and “How to find a supervisor”. These guides can all be accessed for free on the Med Ed Moodle here.
