Spotlight Vol 19 (2025)

This edition’s central theme is global, interrogating what it means to have access to safe, timely, and
affordable surgical care. Our authors examine global health from multiple angles, including exploring
paediatric infectious disease in low- and middle-income countries, preventive cardiology, climate
and health policy, pharmaceutical power and equity, and mental health.

We’re also privileged to feature interviews with Professor Kokila Lakhoo, an Oxford-based global
paediatric surgeon and Dr Nakul Raykar, a Harvard-based trauma surgeon and health systems
researcher, who advocate for equitable surgical systems, and work at the intersection of surgery,
policy, and global health.
