Initiative Groups.

Paving the way for the future.

AMSA's various initiative groups.

Medical Education

Medical Education (Med Ed) works to improve medical education in Australia by creating open-access, peer-reviewed exam resources, study guides, fact sheets and OSCE scenarios. Med Ed also provides students with research opportunities that enable AMSA to produce independent research on the state of medical education in Australia.

Global Health

AMSA Global Health is involved in serving the global health interests of medical students across Australia. Global Health seeks to connect, inspire, and empower medical students to effect change towards global health equity through tangible, unified, responsible, and sustainable action.

Mental Health

Medical students and doctors experience a higher prevalence of psychological distress and suicide than the general population. As such AMSA Mental Health aims to educate students on mental health, support those living with mental ill health, and de-stigmatise the experience of living with a mental illness.

Vampire Cup

The Vampire Cup is AMSA’s annual blood donation drive, run as a competition between Australian medical schools to see who can donate the most blood! Australian Red Cross Lifeblood facilitates our national blood drive with each university having a Lifeblood donation group to electronically record donation numbers.

AMSA International

Linking Australian Medical Students with international internships, leadership and governance opportunities, policy writing and healthcare strategy working groups.

Social Prescribing Student Collective

The SPSC is an initiative group founded in 2021 with the aim to educate medical students about social prescribing. We are now an internationally recognised part of a growing movement to incorporate social prescribing in Australia.

Boots to Scrubs

Boots to scrubs aims to inspire, empower, and support rural women to pursue a career as a rural doctor. By actively supporting and inspiring more individuals from rural backgrounds to pursue medical careers, we can address the pressing need for rural doctors that our communities urgently require.
