Rural Health Summit 2026

22 May @ 8:00 am 24 May @ 5:00 pm

From the Ground Up: Building the Future of Rural Health

The AMSA Rural Health Summit (RHS) brings medical students together to experience rural health where it is lived, taught, and sustained. RHS 2026 will be held in Armidale from 22–24 May, a major regional health and education centre and a nationally recognised ACRRM training hotspot. Set within the University of New England and its surrounding communities, Armidale represents the foundations of rural medicine — strong training pathways, close community ties, and deep connection to place.

Delegates have the option of travelling together by train from Sydney to Armidale, with academic speakers and facilitated discussions on board, transforming the journey into a shared learning experience. The summit will feature rural health keynote speakers, local and external clinicians, and a Rural Rescue Challenge led by ACRRM experts in the surrounding outback. Alongside academic sessions, RHS 2026 will include wellness events grounded in regional living, including a community-led Indigenous wellbeing experience centred on connection to Country, social events including a Gala Night, and accommodation in UNE’s residential colleges, offering accessible and affordable options. An overnight return bus will bring delegates back to Sydney early Monday morning. Hosted by rural medical students and Armidale locals, RHS 2026 showcases not only rural health — but the fulfilment, connection, and purpose of regional life — building the future of rural medicine from the ground up.
